School Site Council

2006-2007 Survey Results

The School Site Council (SSC) is comprised of an equal number of parents and teachers/staff whose mandate is to allocate School Improvement Program (SIP) funds provided by the State of California toward furthering the educational goals of the school site.  These goals for Pacific School are clearly stated in the School Plan, which is available for anyone to read in the administration office.

 The roles of the MBUSD School Site Councils have evolved since the budget crisis began to dictate strict spending parity between the elementary schools. This is becausethe SSC is the sole group at each school site that:

a.)  can spend funds as it sees fit, without direct oversight from the district;

b.)  does not need to remain on parity with the other school sites; and

c.)  has the ability to spend funds on salaries.

The flip side is that the SSC funds are limited and finite.  They cannot be increased by individual or corporate donation, and the State can reallocate SSC funding as it needs to, without much recourse available to the school sites.

The Science Lab and Reading Club are two key areas which are not funded by the District or MBEF, yet are fundamental to our children's growth and success.  We are fortunate to be able to help fund the salaries of our Reading Specialist (Mrs. Shirlee Rogers) and our Science Specialist (Ms. Harriet Darley).

School Site Council meetings are held once a month on Monday at 3:15 pm, and we encourage everyone interested to attend.  Please feel free also to let us know your thoughts and concerns by contacting a member of the Council listed below:
