The Principal's Corner
It’s a matter of Princi”PAL”
I approach my role, as the new principal at Pacific Elementary School, with great enthusiasm. A brief work bio: Twenty-three years as a classroom teacher; two years as an assistant principal (in Simi Valley); a principal, for seven years, in the Castaic Union School District; selected as the Santa Clarita Valley “Principal of the Year”; eleven years as Grand View’s Principal. My personal energy and a dedication to developing a positive student-focused environment are the key focuses of my educational philosophy. I am uncompromising with respect to issues that are essential to nurturing and building a school culture that translates into outstanding student achievement. With history as a guide, I am certain that my expectations of my staff, students and myself will expand annually.
My leadership style focuses on a collaborative effort and shared decision-making, by all stakeholders, to support student achievement. Being visible and trustworthy while maintaining a sense of humor, as well as listening with an open-mind, are the keys to my leadership style. I arrive at school each day energized and ready to “make a difference”, with a goal of ‘rolling up my sleeves’ to face our daily issues in a pragmatic but empathetic manner.
On a personal note: my family consists of my husband Eric, three terrific children, a wonderful son-in-law and daughter-in-law and two adorable granddaughters. My oldest son is a television talent agent at CAA; my daughter is an attorney and property manager; and my youngest son runs a family owned company that builds and sells coin operated laundries and develops and owns commercial real estate. When not at work, I enjoy travel, bike riding, tennis, walking the strand, live theatre, spending time with my growing family and rooting for my Bruins and Dodgers.
I look forward to being a leader in the Pacific community and continuing the tradition of excellence that has so clearly been established.
Here’s to a great year!
