MBEF

Better Schools. Brighter Future.

girl with home signA word about budgeting from Superintendent Mike Matthews: "State revenues are below what was budgeted for this year, which may result in mid-year cuts to MBUSD. Our budget should be able to withstand limited mid-year cuts, as we have budgeted for that possibility.  Thanks to wise fiscal stewardship on the part of our Board and extraordinary support of our community through MBEF, we are as ready as any district in the state. The next two months will be critical as we plan the budget for 2012-13."

Parent support of MBEF is always important, but it is times like these when we know how truly critical it is.  Your donations keep class sizes small, curriculum engaging and students well supported. If you have given already, thank you, if not, please pledge or give today.

We have much to be proud of as a community.  Join us in congratulating:

  • Our Model UN team that won best Delegation (school) for the third time in four appearances
  • The four Costa students who were recognized as the Nations best writers with an NCTE award
  • Our Costa Symphony for being selected as one of four top youth orchestras in the Los Angeles Area
  • And our Costa Band that earned big wins at the South Bay Invitational competition

Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy these talented students perform the sounds of the season at one of the upcoming music performances at Costa or MBMS.  And enjoy some good "holiday drama" at the MCHS Drama Department performance to benefit for MBEF 12/8. You also won't want to miss the  TEDxManhattanBeach Social 12/15.

Did You Know? #4

MBEF Pledge Day, November 4th.  Donate or pledge by this date.  By giving now, MBEF can determine how much it can contribute to our schools next year.  Your investment last year saved 66 educators and kept 1 in 5 elementary teachers (small class sizes), libraries, computer and science labs open, reading specialists and music teachers at Pacific.  It’s up to all of us to bring the best education to our children once again.  The goal is to raise $1,250 per student.  Give more if you can and less if you can't.  Your participation counts.  Give today at www.mbef.org.

Perspective: Manhattan Beach Schools are now ranked #3 in the State. By comparison, San Marino has been ranked #1 for six years. But San Marino has Measure E, a $795.00 parcel tax approved for six years, and their education foundation suggests a $2,000 donation per student. Our district is all the more impressive because we obtained such high performing students in our public schools without having a parcel tax or donation levels as high as San Marino. Thank the donors to the MB Education Foundation for helping save the 66 educators who, together with all our teachers and administrators make a difference in our children’s education. Please join them and support the Annual Appeal. Our goal is to raise $1250 per student. Give every child every chance at www.mbef.org

Did You Know?  (#1)

MBUSD ranks number #3 in the state (up from #5), only behind San Marino and La Canada. Thank you for supporting MBEF. It is an investment in your children and your community. We can not rely on the state for proper funding. Your investment helps us take control from the state in building a school district that our children deserve. With your support, we can maintain a school district with stability and continuity. This year MBEF will pay for 66 educators to help maintain our excellent schools. Support the Annual Appeal. $1250 per student. Give every child every chance at www.mbef.org

In our elementary schools, MBEF pays for:

- one in every 5 teachers
- Small class sizes
- Computer Specialists
- Reading Specialists
- Library Specialists
- Science Specialists
- Instrumental music teachers
- Choral music teachers
- Curriculum specialist
