Pacific Pawprints—September 28, 2010

Pawprints newsletter

Dear Pacific Parents and Guardians,

We are off to a wonderful start of the 2010-2011 school year. I would like to thank our brilliant PTA Co-Presidents and MBEF Representatives for assisting Pacific School with all three of our Back-to-School Night school presentations. Thanks also to Carolyn Seaton, MBUSD Executive Director of Education Services, who attended our Back-to-School Night on September 16th.   Mrs. Seaton toured all of the classes with me and was very impressed by the classrooms and the wonderful SMART Board presentations provided by the Pacific teachers. Thanks again to all of the Panther parents and guardians for your attendance – we were very close to 100% participation! The Pacific Staff is looking forward to a great year.

Last Friday we had our first Pacific family event of the year; our annual PTA sponsored Movie Night. The Movie Night chairs reported that they sold 1,286 tickets. This amazing number does not include the tickets provided to the Pacific Teachers. This evening event was well attended and it was a perfect night to enjoy friends and families. Thanks to a group of convincing 2nd grade students I especially enjoyed the gigantic inflatable slides. How do you say no to their adorable pleas to try all of the slides? After testing all of them, I preferred the tiger slide!

If you are a new or returning parent or guardian, it’s time to review the eight simple KSR-HELPR principles that guide Panthers to become better students and citizens: kind, safe, responsible, honest, empathetic, logical, positive and respectful. We hope that you will join us by modeling these character traits at home by making connections to your self, your children and the world. At Pacific, we will incorporate the tenets of KSR-HELPR into our daily school routines.
Speaking of school routines, please take a moment to review important timeframes related to school safety and student learning:
  • Playground supervision is available for 1st-5th grade from 8:00-8:10 every morning on the upper playground. Please help keep safety a priority by not allowing your child to arrive on campus before 8:00 in the morning. If we observe students arriving early, they will be asked to wait in the office until 8:00.

  • The Pacific School campus is a “Learning Zone” from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every day. Our school has multiple start and end times across kindergarten to fifth grade. Please minimize disruptions to the learning environment by not playing on the playground and chatting in the halls/in front of classroom doors until after 3:00 p.m. every day. Throughout the school community, the staff will use the phrase, “Learning Zone”, to remind students to show their respect for peer learning.

  • Early/Late Bird (1st and 2nd grade) schedules have begun. Early Birds should not play on the playground after their 2:05 dismissal and Late Birds should not play on the playground prior to their 8:55 start time.

  • Third grade students and parents/guardians, please exit the campus quietly after dismissal at 2:15. Students in grades K, 1, 2, 4 and 5 are receiving instruction.

Thanks for your support, thank you for modeling values, and for your commitment to the learning process.
Warmest regards,
Debbie Mabry
Principal
