MBUSD Budget Update

The Good News:

• $2.6M including $1.3M from the city of Manhattan Beach (Thank You!)
• The MBUSD School Board has voted to use these additional funds to maintain reasonable class sizes and reinstate counselors at the middle and high schools.  That means we saved 20 teachers across the district, 4 right here at Pacific!

The Bad News:

• The Propositions failed so there will be additional cuts for 2009/10.
• Any Federal stimulus funds received will be offset by additional state cuts.
• More cuts are likely.  MBUSD has taken a conservative approach to reinstating programs and is planning for two years.

What Can You Do?

Participate in the Blue Team Activities – We hear that our efforts in advocacy are working. The Legislature is actually considering implementing full flexibility as we have suggested.  Our letters are the single most important thing we can do at this time!
